Drawing the line.

'You shall not hate your fellow countryman in your heart;
you may surely reprove your neighbor,
but shall not incur sin because of him.'
- Leviticus 19:17
I guess disappointment in other people is a universal feeling. We have all probably experienced being let down by people we trust and love. Some of us hurt by people we barely know.

And like many, I believe this disappointment, the sadness we feel because of the wrong that others have caused whether to us, to others or to themselves comes from a love that we have for these people. Whether we admit it or not, we care. Because if we didn't, none of his/her actions would hurt us.

I admit my disappointment sometimes gets out of line. I sometimes expect too much and instead of care, I harbor the sadness and take it against the person.

God today spoke so clearly about how we should react to these situations. The feeling of disappointment is understandable but incurring sin because of it is not.

Diversity

Gabriella Montez: Do you remember in kindergarten, how you'd meet a kid, and know nothing about them, then 10 seconds later you'd be playing like you were best friends, because you didn't have to be anyone but yourself?

Too bad we can't be kids forever.

I guess one of the most difficult things we have to deal with as we grow older is the fact that there are different personalities and a wide range of experiences, values, ideals and attitudes that we won't understand. Most of these new personalities, you'll understand. But the challenge is to keep your ground (Be yourself if being yourself is a good thing. Otherwise, it's just being stubborn.) but still know how to constructively and harmoniously correlate with the person (or persons if you're situation's that sad) you just can't fathom at all.

Diversity and change are sure in this world. You have to learn to live with it or you'll be drained trying to fight it.

It's difficult but rewarding. Jesus said kasi yesterday, "If you love only the people who love you, why should you receive a blessing? Even sinners do that. ... No! Love your enemies and do good to them; lend and expect nothing back. You will then have a great reward, and you will be sons of the Most High God."

Oh. Most importantly, pray that that person or those people don't make it any more difficult than it already is. :D

why forgive and trust?

From Grey's Anatomy...

Alex: Why are you helping me after what I did?
Izzie: Because it's what Jesus would freakin' do!!!

... and now I realize that this might just be the answer I'm looking for.

What I learned today...

It's merely kilig and not love if God isn't part of it.

And if it's not anything like what God showed us by sending His only Son, what Jesus showed us through the cross and His unconditional love and guidance everyday, don't call it love. We are blessed to have been given the greatest love of all: God's love. Let's always remember na ito ang totoong love and not anything else. And for the reason na galing ito kay God, love is beautiful.

And True Love Waits.

The greatest gift

We all know that Jesus is the greatest gift we have all received this Christmas season. So this is about the second greatest gift we - the entire Ligunas family (my dad's & his brothers' families, my grandmother & a distant grandaunt) - received this Christmas.

We were already at our room at Discovery Suites last Dec. 24 when Tito Vonn, a cousin of my dad's from the States , whom they invited to join us arrived. Everybody was happy to see him since he hasn't come home for 6 years. But that's not the gift.

Around that time, my tito/ninong, who went out for a while, came back with a letter. It was a letter from Discovery Suites saying that Santa Claus was going to go to our room at 8 in the evening. It said that the Santa was deaf and mute so it was part of a fund-raising thing. My grandmother and younger cousins got excited.
At 8 in the evening, Santa arrived. He was wearing a mop as his beard and hair. We were all called out from our rooms to the sala so that we could take a picture with him. But instead of the kids getting excited, some of them got scared and didn't want to approach santa. :p

Since Santa was deaf and mute, he brought flash cards with him so that he could communicate with us. But first, he gave an envelope saying "Love Offering (Min: P50.00)" Ang kapal ni Santa. lol. Pero in fairness, ang baba ng minimum.

Then, these are what transpired (The contents of Santa's flash card are contained in quotation marks(" "). We read all of those aloud for fun and since some of my cousins don't know how to read yet):

"Ho! Ho! Ho!"
"Merry Christmas"
(conversation with 2 of my cousins)
Juno: baka si Tito Lloyd yan //my uncle who was out because he had a gig
Me: hindi! bingi yan e.
*gets the letter then shows it to them*
(end of conversation)
"Are you Happy..."
Us: Yes!!!

"With Your Face?" //Bingi nga siya db?!
(conversation with my mom)
Me: Mommy, bingi yan e.
// Tito law is my dad's brother who has been in the States for the past 3 years.
Me: Sure ka?
(end of conversation)
"Do you know WHO I AM? Hint: SANTA CL_ _ _"
Us: Santa Claus!
My Dad: Santa Clara. //corny. haha.
"My name is SANTA CLOWN."
*people laugh*
"I am a MOP HEAD Specialist. (by PROFESSION)"
*laughter again*
"I am the current commander of the North Pole MOP SQUAD"
"I can grant one very special wish for Christmas..."
"What do you wish for?"
Tita Catchy: I wish for my husband. //Tita Catchy is tito law's wife.
"But first do you want me to dance?"
Tito Vonn: Michael Jackson?
*Santa nods.* //I'm like: I thought that guy was deaf. Inuuto naman kami nito e. Baka nga tito ko talaga yan. *Santa dances*
"Ok, now here is my gift for you... Are you ready?"
"(1)Get one envelope each. (2)Do not open yet. (3)We'll open all at the same time. Ready???"
*envelopes are distributed* //I told my mom: Pano niya naman nalaman kung gano tayo kadami dito?
"Get Set... => GO!!!"
Luis (my brother): Pera ba to?

Guess what was inside the envelopes...

It was a piece of paper saying: "I'M HOME!!!"

We all started shouting. Santa removed his mop and hat. It was Tito Law. My cousins and tita rushed at him and hugged him. It was a really long hug. 6 out of his 7 children were crying. One of them was only 2 when tito Law left. He was more of shocked. Pano ba naan kasi puting puti yung mukha ni Santa? Then my dad, my lola and of course all of us na rin hugged him. My dad, my lola, my mom, my siblings and I - we were all crying as well.

We were all overwhelmed with joy. The feeling was incomparable. Seeing how happy tito Law was to be back with his family and seeing how glad my cousins and aunt were when they saw tito Law, their tears and all - these were all great. Seeing the family smile and become genuinely happy was just heartwarming. I couldn't even imagine how hard it was for all of them not to see their dad for such a long time and for tito law to miss 3 years of his children's lives. Almost every moment of our stay in Discovery, my uncle was hugging at least one of his children or his wife. I'm just so happy for them.

I have not received a gift greater than this this year. Actually, I haven't received a gift greater than this my entire life.

Turns out my uncle has been home since Friday and was staying at another room in Discovery. Ninong Larry and tito Vonn were the only ones who knew that he was back. They helped plan the surprise. Tita Catchy hasn't been able to sleep well for 3 nights. She felt like Tito Law was coming back. She was crying one night and her children saw her. She had to tell them what she felt. My mom, on the other hand, has told me quite a number of times this month, "Sana isurprise ni tito Law yung family niya this Christmas. Sana umuwi na siya." Galing ng women's intuition no?! When Tita Catchy said "kilala ko yang sulat na yan," my dad started staring at santa's eyes to see if it was tito law. Tito Vonn reminded tito law by signaling him, to avoid eye contact. Tito Vonn told us afterwards that he noticed daddy looking at tito law intently and that he had told tito law beforehand to avoid eye contact because his family knows him.

Tito Law... Welcome back. We are all so happy to see you again. You made all of us, your family, extra happy this year. We missed you. We will always be here praying for you. We know that wherever you are in the world and whatever you decide to do, God will be right beside you, guiding you, and never forsaking you and your family kasi sobrang malakas ka sa kanya. We love you. God bless!

Truly, the family is God's gift to us. They are the people who will never turn their backs away from us. Some might seem like they don't care but they truly do. Because the love that your family gives you doesn't only stem from commitment (something that often gets broken), it comes from your connection (in blood, in genes, in umbilical chord) which can't be taken away and in that bond that God has made in the very beginning among all of you. Let us all treasure our families. They're the people who will never leave your side.

additional thank you

Thank you Ma'am Rodrigo for posting a link of my blog in yours. I feel so touched. haha.

Here's her blog: http://thespoke.net/blogs/didith

I forgot to acknowledge in my ASPC entry the Ateneo Department of Information Systems and Computer Science faculty. Thank you for making the event possible, for providing the resources needed and for generously sharing with us your time and expertise. May God continue to bless you with whatever it takes to push through with the camp every year and ideas like the ASPC. :)

Ateneo Summer Programming Camp

For the past two weeks, I’ve been attending the ASPC at the Ateneo De Manila University. Everyday, may lecture sa start from members of the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS) Faculty followed by practice exercises tapos contest sa end. The last two days official contest na. Teammates ko sina Rob & Nico. We won 3rd. Sorry hindi ko memorize yung names nung 4th and 5th. Yung team nila Nellie, Mary Grace & Marnie from Chang Kai Shek won 2nd. Tapos UNEXPECTEDLY yung first place yung team nila Fatima, Ivan & Paul. We were all so surprised. Lol. The entire 2 weeks were really fun. It could have lasted for an entire month and I wouldn’t have mind.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:

Sir Anton & Ivan - for telling us about the camp.
Sir Anton (again) - for waiting for our forms patiently even if some of us submitted them to you less than 15 mins from the deadline (Goes to show how much we procrastinate), for inviting the entire group out to lunch, for wishing us luck and making us feel that we could still fight, for developing our interest in programming through both comp sci class and proogies, for opening for us an exciting new world. We are really super sorry for leaving early last Thursday.

The organizers – for preparing such a wonderful event, for all the hard work you put into it, for the challenge, for giving us headaches ü, for everything you taught us, for being so approachable and friendly, for making us feel at home, for always checking on us and making sure we were all fine, for being so patient with us especially us pisay people who were always so intense and hyper, for the warm welcome and goodbye, for the very updated yahoo group, for the pizza (esp for considering that it was Friday), and for everything you imparted to us
The kuyas:
Kuya Neil – for continuously cheering for everyone and pushing us to continue, for the constant plugging of the Ateneo and CS, for being the judge, for showing us how long one of our problems took to execute(lol), for helping me with one of the triangles, for teaching us that contest programming is not all about skill but is about knowing how to work well with others
Kuya Elijah – for moderating the games during the first day, for being so warm and friendly, for the tour, for pouring the pepsi for us a while ago, for moderating the contests, for taking our pictures a while ago
Kuya Kenny – for always smiling, for making the test cases, for always being so cool and relaxed in everything you did
Kuya Mike – for making the test cases too, for seeming like you didn’t want to give a speech a while ago, (like kuya Kenny) for also being so relaxed

The Ates - even if there were only 2 of you out of the 6, super galing niyo po pareho. Girl power talaga:
Ate Gretch – for being super friendly, for being the president of the computer org something (kasi girl power kaya ang amazing po), for telling us and the other teams daily to continue solving and do our best when we were already tired and quite lazy (making us feel that we still had the chance to solve more. ü), for also being so approachable and warm, for making us feel that we were so welcome, for moderating the games, for taking the gazillion number of pictures a while ago
Ate Steph – for also being super friendly, for always watching over our backs (both abstractly and literally), for helping us with our syntax problems (ang bilis niyo po magdebug. Grabe. One look alam niyo na po yung mali ü), for being happy with us when our programs successfully ran, for always smiling, for being soooo approachable, for all the help and patience especially since we were in one of the rows assigned to you.

My teammates:
For being patient with me, for being great programmers, for bearing with the times I was lazy, hungry or sulky, for the tsimis I obtained, for not replacing me even if I was absent nung Day 8. lol. I’m super sorry for the mistakes I committed a while ago. I realized that they could have made much of a difference in our time and gave us more to solve another. But I do know looking back at the contest this way is an insult to God and what I was saying (even if it was jokingly) a while ago wasn’t good. But we did win so congrats!!! Ang galing natin. We were very consistent. Go team 17!!!
Rob – for coding really well, for reminding nico and I not to be sulky, for understanding my vague explanations of the solutions to the problems, for uplifting nico and I and keeping the team intact, for your good programming practices during the last half hour which gave us so much, for saying I’m not fat. lol.
Nico – for doing most of the math stuff because I sure am happy that you took those kind of problems ;>, for being ultra pessimistic and ultra optimistic with me, for being organized and oc too, for knowing which problems were easy and which were difficult, for providing the team with the energy and enthusiasm we need.
**I had lots of fun with both of you. Though we have our disappointments, I enjoyed every part of it. I enjoyed sharing everything we’ve accomplished with you two. Now, I don’t think I have any regrets at all because we learned a lot from each other, from the experience and even from the results. The experience was both uplifting and humbling and it couldn’t get any better than that. Thank you to the two of you talaga. Ang drama ko. Nacarry over from the moment a while ago. Haha.

The other Pisay people:
Fatima – hey! Wala na talaga akong posibleng message for you. lol. Thanks for being there, for cheering for us(haha), for the stories and for the telebabad sessions despite the fact that we were already with each other the entire morning
Haha. Thanks for the challenge! You always pushed all of us to our limits. Your presence helped us keep going on and never stop. Thank you for cheering for us too.
Paul – for being yourself. You still manage to make us laugh kahit araw-araw ka na naming kasama. Sorry kung it took me quite some time to understand what you wanted me to code nung magkagroup tayo. Thank you for cheering too.
**To the three of you, congrats! I am amazed at your efficiency as a group. You three helped a lot by cheering for us. It was uplifting having your support.

To the others:
Erlyn – partner… thanks for dealing with my panic and for being friendly. It removed my uncertainty in working with other people besides my schoolmates.
Nellie, Marnie and Mary Grace – Congratulations! thanks for the competition. Your group reminded us to keep on solving and never give up. Galing niyo. ü
Rai, Miggy and Kevin – for the conversation at the cafeteria and being friendly. You 3 are fun.
Patricia – for the conversations especially when Fat, Nico & Rob had our very educational tricycle experience and when I was fetched late, for helping Fatima and I find our way, for being so friendly, warm and nice
Kim – for visiting my blog. Too bad you guys became so busy. ü
… and everyone else – It was super fun to be with everyone. Thanks for bearing with our noise. Sa bagay, weren’t we all? ü Too bad we didn’t have more time to bond. I hope we all bump into each other someday or better yet we organize something pati na rin the ates and kuyas that will bring us all together soon.

Haha. Ang dami kong sinabi. It was so much fun e kaya I couldn’t just let the event pass without a blog entry. ü If you reached this point, thank you for still reading. ü

spcp fair =)

Shout out. It’s Himigsikan.
Jump up. We’re celebrating.
Sing on. We’re up and rising.
35.25.

I went to St. Paul’s fair last Saturday. Sadly, I missed the SCA Camp because of it. The activities were similar to the other fairs since I was grade 6 so nothing too exciting about it except for the Cheering exhibition, which was last done when I was grade 5. For people like us who aren’t studying there anymore, we attend the fair with the sole purpose of seeing old friends, teachers and the school as well. It was really fun to just go around and say hi to almost everyone. Though I couldn’t relate to most of the things they were talking about, I still enjoyed spending time with them. To the following batchmates who were so hospitable as to allowing me to join you and kind as to make me feel like I am missed, thank you very much and I miss you, guys (in no particular order. haha): Marga, Clara, Cha, Val, Crystal, Tricia, Garsha, Madel, Aylene, Rachel, Rojani, Tracy, Luge, Jessie, Kathleen, Sacla, Elo, etc. =). To the people who I still regularly see and made the stay more enjoyable: Doms & Ysh. To the others who’ve left but will always be paulinians at heart: Jung & Anton. Ang ganda din ng fair kasi pwede nang mag-yfc meeting sa dami ng mga nandoon: of course the paulinians, ate abi, doms, ysh, monica, mill, camille, pau, nikki, liz, joanna, lindsay, millie, sab, pam, lexi, nzie, lauren, Danielle, ate kia(kahit graduate na) and the many others who I just can’t remember at this time and the visitors david, peter, roel, mike, carlo, quiel, don, cha, john, chris, raph, pj, at kung sino pa di ko nakita.

Comments bout the school: Though I agree that technology and keeping up with the times are important, I don’t agree with what they did the rotonda. The tree is still there but it will not be the same old tambayan for Paulinians that it has been for decades now. Meron pa rin naming IMC e. Hindi pa naman ata nakukulangan dun e. Ano nga naman say ko? Wala na naman ako dun. But it would have been better if it wasn’t turned into some sort of internet café.

I miss St. Paul. It will forever be a part of me because it was one of the institutions that made me who I am today. Though I may not be studying in SPCP anymore, I will always remain one of its active prayer warriors. God bless sa inyo lahat especially sa juniors. :p.

weekend at last

Grabe! Extreme emotions ako this week. Nakakapagod.

Ano ba naming klaseng rason yun db?! Tapos nagsimula akong magpaka-depressed nung bio time. As in nagsulat lang ako nang nagsulat para ilabas ung mga sama ng loob ko. Pero dismissal time, medyo good mood na ako. Kasama ko nun si ryan tapos napuntahan namin sila nico, gihan, mari and other dahlia people.

Tuesday… I started the day by recalling everything that made me feel bad. Tapos nung natapos yun, nagsulat ako ng editorial. Labo ko talaga no?! We also started our practicals in PE. I didn’t do well but I think I learned a bit. Haha. Better luck next time.

After that, I was in good mood already. I wrote during Filipino time but it was about how much better I was feeling. Tapos may naayos pa na problem so I really felt good. Tapos supposedly may workshop kaya nasa journ room kami lahat, tapos I heard about the bad news so nalungkot ako na gusto ko nang umiyak. Since la c ma’am jams, nagstroll na lng kami lahat (nico, jami, ray2, ben, henson, hopee). As usual, it was the most stressful night for eng journ students. Current events quiz and due ang news journal the next day. Samahan mo pa ng 2 long test na kailangan aralin.

Thursday… So yun nagkaroon ng long test sa English, current events quiz sa eng journ, long test sa bio. Grabe! Nakakapagod yung day na yun. Tapos since due ang lab rep the next day at may long test sa math, natulog ako ng 10-12.

So nagpanic ako. Todo hanap around the school. Lahat ng tao hinanapan ko nung tickets. As in. Sinamahan ako nina fatima and eski. (Salamat Eski!) Nakausap ko siya. Sabi niya ok lng. So may tickets rn pala kami. Alleluia!!! Maganda ung ibong adarna. Amazing ang lights. Sayang nga lang hindi buong story. Ganun naman ang presentation ng ibong adarna most of the time.

"describe 15 people" thing

Sorry kung gaya gaya pero walang pasok so wala akong magawa. I give credit to the people from whom I got this idea: Ryan & Joji. 16 to kc gusto ko. haha. = )

Sobrang talino at bait. Genius ang buong pamilya. Katelebabad ko noon ng madalas.

4.di na kami nagkakausap as often as before. Mukha cyang mataray pero hindi talaga. Sobrang bait at very good listener.

5.very deep thinker, is super intelligent and hard-working, can explain views very calmly but they still come out strong, doesn’t give up, makes me & everyone around him feel good about themselves, is a super good friend anyone would want to keep for a very, very long time. And is also a very religious person

Also a great friend I’d like to keep. Genuine & fun to converse with.

7.a person I will never forget because of how different my perception of him/her was from the real person. This person was very honest and opened up to me the very first day we got to talk to each other or second or third (basta sobrang bagong kilala pa lng kami). Has a lot to say about a variety of things.

8.one, if not the first person, I opened up to in pisay. Sobrang nung first year, siya yung favorite kong kausapin kasi naiintindihan niya yung mga sinasabi ko. may sinabi ako sa kanyang bagay na never ko pang nasabi kahit kanino. A person that proves the saying “silent water runs deep.” Siya ata ang kilala kong pinakamagaling magkeep ng sinabi mo sa kanya to him/herself.

9.the person who was the easiest to invite to the youth camp and was the most excited about it. A great leader & friend. Very intelligent and creative. Pretty ‘to.

10.parang parating diet.

Masaya. Mahal na mahal nya ang yfc. Idol ko rin sa blogging.

13.religious. Masaya kausap tungkol sa faith. Laging nalilito pero always ends up making a decision anyway.

14.we share the same high and eagerness to bring God to other people in school. A really great friend. Very intelligent and talented.

15.is very cheerful and very generous with the resources that he can provide. Masipag, mabait and great friend.

16.the only person that made me feel guilty about not caring and pretending not to know what I knew (lagi ko kasi yang ginagawa. Once lang ako naguilty. Haha.)
